Spring in my studio & garden
My studio is my favourite place to be, especially in the spring and summer when the view from the window is full of sunshine and colour.
In the spring it is yellows that predominate with daffodils and the fresh acer leaves which are followed by the blue haze of wisteria that covers the wall. Most of my paintings are done here and nearly all my subjects are from my garden. I play around with loose watercolour or acrylic to try and convey the glow of the sun shining through the daffodils and I love that against a dark background beyond, it really intensifies the colour.
This spring has been very special with more sunshine than in recent years and some plants seem to be flowering earlier than usual. My tree peonies have flowered and are going over which seems surprising. The magnolias have been resplendent and the primroses seem to be everywhere, it must be a good year for them. I try and slow down the time as spring passes far too quickly and the only way I can think of is to be bored but I hardly ever am so it is quite difficult.
At the beginning of the year, I set myself the challenge of creating a concertina book each month. I do love making these little books and I’m so pleased to share that both March and April’s are now finished and available to purchase.
